I consider it an immense privilege to work with college students and I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with talented, compelling, and ambitious young people every day on a university campus. I strive to channel this gratitude into my work developing meaningful and engaging programs that challenge students to learn about themselves and the world around them as they mature into young adults and ethical leaders. As an undergrad myself, I experienced difficulty adjusting to the lifestyle and rigors of a competitive university after graduating from an under-resourced high school where the expectations, culture, and tools required for success were different from what I needed to be a successful undergraduate. I finally made a successful transition after seeking out mentors, becoming a TA, and pursuing volunteer opportunities that allowed me to develop deep and meaningful connections to my institution. I carry these experiences and memories every day and I use them to inform my work on campus leading co-curricular programs and working to increase opportunities for success. I was compelled to consider a career in higher education after I witnessed the transformative power of high-impact, evidence-based university programs and mentorship.
Beyond my traditional professional accomplishments in the field up to this point, I am proudest of the success I’ve achieved building communities and strong, long lasting bonds among and with students. I use life design principles and the cohort-learning model in the programs I have led, encouraging students to actively engage with one another by sharing experiences and by problem solving. In my most recent roles with domestic study away programs, I worked with faculty and tech entrepreneurs to develop student internships that apply classroom knowledge to the real world. It is my goal to produce students who are not merely career-ready and competent in their fields, but active learners who think critically and act ethically in their professions and daily lives.
In addition to my passion for experiential education and student engagement, I am enthusiastic about the transformative power of higher education and the liberal arts. In every capacity in which I’ve served, I’ve seen my ultimate role as one that helps students take full advantage of the opportunities made available to them and to ensure that each student is able to succeed and to reach her or his full potential. I am deeply committed to producing and supporting high quality student programs that challenge participants to become engaged and active learners who are motivated to make positive and significant impacts on the world around them.
